New Friendly Roots.
Most of the seeds we find on the market are genetically modified in order to generate very productive plants to cope with large distribution. Poem’s mission instead is to go in search of traditional seeds already tested in different environmental conditions, which are able to produce healthy fruits, quality and different from each other trying to counter the gastronomic impoverishment and to rediscover the authentic taste of the product.
To choose our seeds, we have relied on our dear friend Barbara Ducourneau, a plants’ expert who lives in the south west of France. In September, we visited her beautiful greenhouse and tasted several species of tomato grown by her. Day after day we tasted the tomatoes and gave our scores following the scales of the subjective and objective values that we had prepared in order to choose some species to be included in our catalog.

I own a large greenhouse and garden where I grow different types of rare edible plants and flowers sustainably. I love to discover the history and the beneficial contribution that plants have in human life for this reason I look for ancient traditional seeds to plant or produce them on my own.
When Arianna told me about her project for the first time, I was fascinated and I immediately agreed to collaborate. In September, we decided to meet up with the rest of the team et my garden’s location. A few months before their arrival, I went in search of the best seeds and planted about sixty species of tomatoes different in color, shape, taste and origin, which we had the pleasure of tasting during their stay. The scientific measurement work done on my tomatoes enriched the knowledge I had about the plants I grew. In addition, the cross-referencing of data between objective measurements and subjective evaluations revealed unexpected correlations. Thanks to this data, I am refining my search for species to cultivate and taste for next season in order to offer Poem plants with increasingly special characteristics!
